High hopes for sugar beet harvest

The 2011 sugar beet harvest gets under way two weeks earlier than usual in the east of England. British Sugar factories open on 14 September, with growers hoping to avoid a repeat of 2010 when an exceptionally cold winter followed by unseasonally warm weather left crops rotting in the field.
