This is the first footage to show the devastation caused by Schmallenberg virus on a UK farm.

As of 2 February, government scientists have confirmed stillbirths and livestock deformities caused by the disease on 11 farms across south and east England.

An unknown virus until it was identified in Germany last autumn, Schmallenberg is believed to have been carried by midges to the UK.

More UK cases are expected to be confirmed as the lambing season gathers pace.
